ABOUT ME
My name is Clay Francis. I am an Edmonton based mastering engineer. I work in a small, private, custom designed analog-based studio. I have worked in mastering for well over a decade and have received recognition and trust from mixing engineers, producers, and artists globally.

For me, mastering is about taking a finished mix and optimizing it to highlight the subtleties in the music created both in the music and the mix. Masters I provide will highlight the best aspects of a mix, and therefore the music, in a way that can be appreciated by listeners regardless of their playback source or environment. Subtlety and attention to detail are of utmost importance. I am not happy until the artist is not only happy, but thrilled with the results of my work.

I will work with you and offer unlimited revisions, though rarely needed, to ensure you are beyond satisfied. If you are unsure, I will be more than happy to provide a demo master using your mix for you to hear the results of my work on your mix at no charge. I do have demo masters further down, but a complimentary test master is the best way to be sure you like my style of mastering. Email me to inquire!

EQUIPMENT
Converters:
Lynx Hilo - Very standard mastering converters. Clean and Tranparent.

Processing:
SSL Fusion - Subtle character shaping through classic SSL transformers, EQ, and drive circuits.
API 2500+ - Iconic VCA compression as heard on countless hits across decades.
Manley Nu Mu - Mu style compression, but incredibly clean. Does some beautiful things to the midrange.
Kush Clariphonic - Top end parallel equalizer. Shimmery and exciting, but not harsh.

Monitoring:
Audeze LCD-X - One of the only headphones I would consider to be mastering grade.
Focal Solo 6 BE - A full range balanced speaker that gives appropriate detail and clarity.

EQs: Fabfilter ProQ3, Bettermaker EQ232D, Knif Soma, Amek EQ 250, UAD Pultecs

MASTERING
I will work with you until you are happy to provide the best quality master, stylistically suited for your music optimized for your choice of vinyl, streaming, CD, tape, & more.
STEM MASTERING
I am wary of ever doing stem mastering, as its likely a sign that the mix is not finished, but I can stem mastering on request.
